Mercyhurst University is home to 25 varsity sports teams in NCAA Division I and Division II, and began a major $9.5 million renovation project on all of its athletic facilities in 2019.
The Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC) is a 12,000 square foot facility that seats 1,500 and is used for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. In 2021, the MAC underwent a renovation that brought in a new playing surface, upgraded seating and new video scoreboards.
The Mercyhurst Ice Center, built in 1991 for the school’s Division I men’s and women’s hockey teams, is 35,280 square feet and can host 1,500 people. The Ice Center features 8 locker rooms with showers, and renovations in 2019 included an improved cooling system, addition of new dasher boards, glass, flooring and seating.
The William Vorsheck Jr. Athletic Complex features a total of three turf fields, including Saxon Stadium, the Mercyhurst Baseball Field and Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Saxon Stadium is home to the university’s football, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer teams, and has bleacher seating for 2,300. New LED lighting, turf field and scoreboard were installed in 2019. The facility hosted the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship quarterfinals and semifinals in 2021.
Mercyhurst Baseball Field received new turf and scoreboard in 2019. The upgrades also included expanded turf bullpens and new bleacher seating for 1,000 behind home plate. The facility features an indoor facility in right field with two indoor hitting cages, four pitching mounds and 40 lockers.
Mercyhurst Soccer Field was resurfaced with new turf, new LED scoreboard and new goals in 2019.
In 2021, the Mercyhurst Softball field was completed, providing another turf field that can also host soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.
